Memorial Day & Christians in 100 Words
Lately, I’ve been fascinated by the challenge to write stories with exactly 100 words. Many writers call this “micro-fiction.” But does it really have to be fiction? I don’t think so. So here is my 100 word attempt to connect Memorial Day & Christians. Please remember to “like” comment, or share at the bottom of the page.
In 300 AD, Constantine formed the Roman Catholic Church, inextricably binding church & state. For almost 1500 years, they were inseparable, with only those crumbs of Truth aligned with state offered to the average man.
One-by-one, a few decried the discrepancies. In 1776, our founding fathers acted on their insight, separating church & state to protect the integrity of each.
Today, we honor those who died to protect our freedoms, including this freedom of religion. We do so by refusing to cloak our politics in religion, embracing the whole Gospel, loving people even while opposing their views, & pausing to remember with gratitude.
